Indoor plants: secrets and virtues
Indoor plants generally require little maintenance, and offer many advantages. With just a time to expose to sunlight, and touched up a couple of times a year to stimulate growth, you can achieve a beautiful natural decoration.
Many think that spring is the best time for pruning and transplanting, but in reality, this is often not the case. If you are growing a houseplant that comes from an external environment, you must first clean and remove any pests with a pesticide appropriate.
To maintain this kind of plants should always expose them to sunlight, which is the best way to nurture their new buds, and then submit it to any subsequent pruning.
The following are some basic keys to their survival:
Transplant
Change container plant is especially recommended: thus achieved that the roots get water and nutrients they need to avoid that are “sold out” by becoming accustomed to its previous pot, and will give more strength to grow.
As a plant grows, its roots are expanding and need no place to weaken and roll (a classic symptom is the appearance of the tips of roots on the surface of the earth). When this happens will perform the transplant. Do not increase too much the size of the pot at one time, increases from three to six inches per year are best.
To remove the plant from its container to cover the surface of the earth with the palm of your hand, take the main stem between two fingers and tap the jar on a table before inverting and removing the plant. If this does not come easily, pass a knife around edge to loosen the soil. In some cases, if the plant is very large, must break the pot to avoid damaging the roots.

Clean the old container and carefully remove all roots. Wipe them dry and separate outbreaks or broken. Prepare a new container partially covering its drainage holes with a piece of broken pot and adding a layer of soil mix that will maintain the same ground level as before. Place the plant in the center of the pot. Fill with the mixture, using a toothpick aprisiiónela and leave a margin of 1 to 3 inches below the top edge, depending on the size of the container. Water thoroughly.
If you have a plant that has reached the desired size, you may opt to maintain their size by making a slight pruning of roots and foliage every few years. You also have the option of dividing the plant into several stems or shoots.
Division
You can convert a large plant in a more manageable transplanting their individual stalks, or other containers. To this must be cut so as to leave each vital quantity of chemicals needed to promote new growth. Just be fixed, leaving healthy roots and healthy to allow independence of each plant and adaptation to new environment.

Start pulling the plant out of its pot and extending over an area of work. Be sure to leave as much soil mix around the roots as possible. Search groups stems that approach the size of the desired plant. Carefully remove him with your fingers or use a knife or a shovel to divide. Examine each plant divided and discard any stems or leaves damaged or in disrepair.
Put each new plant in a container that is slightly wider and deeper than the land mass that contains the root. Fill it with the mixture, water well and expose to sunlight filter for a few days.
Pruning
Pruning should only be done thoroughly in the fall or spring, but the cuts can be made lighter, carefully, at any time. If you see that the plant spreads too can crop it to improve its shape and stimulate new growth. It is essential to use clean, sharp scissors or pruning certain special conditions as a pair of scissors into disrepair could crush the stems, leaving the plant vulnerable.
Begin by cutting any part damaged, faded or yellow, diseased stems, wilted leaves, the centers of the flowers without petals or any branch too big. Do not focus only on the outer parts, also look at the center of the plant and trim off any damaged. Always make your cuts over new leaves, or nodes, this will promote bushy, compact growth.
Clean
Among the most important maintenance tasks make an effort to keep your plants clean so that they can breathe easily, absorb the vital light of the sun and produce its own food through photosynthesis. At least once a month clean the top and back surface of the leaves leaving them shiny (and be sure to hold the sheets with her free hand) using a soft cloth dampened with warm water and remove excess water with paper towel, as these could cause breakage or overheating.
Regularly spray plants or place them under the shower using a gentle rain upon them, which will help them stay clean and remove some small pests.
In the case of cacti cleaning is a more delicate process. If plants have spines is necessary to use forceps to clear them of particles with care not to damage the wax layer that protects them, as it is very fragile. Another option is to spray it with compressed air. Plants with leaves covered with lint, for its part, should be brushed gently with a brush.
