A Fitted Bedroom
Guest article written by Rob Stone
A fitted kitchen, yes, but a fitted bedroom? What is that all about? Well, further investigation proved that they are very popular which put me right in my place. Perhaps it is because I am a male but I really had never heard of them. So, into the real world then and the first thing I learned was that you can if you wish secure professional help in tailoring the bedroom to your own taste. Anyway I didn’t and fancied taking this on myself.
Like everything to everyone these days cost is paramount but apparently a fitted bedroom is a good selling point should you ever move and does put extra value on the house.
What you do and how much you do will depend on the size of the bedroom as there are several different options you can consider. Drawing a plan is the best way to start. Make use of the internet if you can for any tips. Apparently the fitted bedroom, known as the new ‘in thing’ can help you provide yourself with far more space than you could ever have imagined. Well, we’ll see about that.
The focal point or centrepiece as it is sometimes called is obviously the Bed with the wardrobe(s) coming a close second. Not many have the luck to have room for a walk-in wardrobe but if you have then go for it. Otherwise consider a carcass or frame built-in wardrobe. There are advantages and disadvantages to both and for this reason and because of their size it is essential that you take a while to really study both options to ensure you reach the correct decision for your bedroom. We are assuming so far that we are planning the master bedroom but if a smaller bedroom is being given the works then consider a sliding door wardrobe which will mean easier maintenance and no doors opening into the room itself.
By way of the internet finding a suitable bed is easy but don’t forget the headboard. With the bed and wardrobes in place you can concentrate on the remainder of the room. There are endless possibilities some of which will obviously be guided by the purse strings. Make sure you have a chest of drawers though and find one that is large enough to hold everything you want it to. A bedside cabinet must also be considered.
Once everything is fitted in and a good warm carpet is added it will look divine. Remember statistics show we spend one-third of our lives in the bedroom so comfort is important. And it really did give me that extra space.
